While a good post, I take issue with the point #4. Statistics show more business (even the ones that are well run) fail more often than succeed. If you leave yourself no "outs" then you hit bottom. Its harder to work up from nothing than something. I have seen that advice shelled out more often than I'd care to count, and I feel sorry for those that take it to heart. While well intentioned, it clearly sends out the wrong signal that Make sure that if you fail, you have nothing left. You make it sound as if Success and Failure come at a certain point and if you reach it then you are golden, if not, then you are nothing, whereas in reality, even if your business is good today, it may not be tomorrow, and its a consistent battle. How many companies lately achieved tremendous success and then went on to declare bankruptcy short time later. There is NOTHING wrong with having outs, it says that you know when you are holding a losing hand and should give up rather than bet your entire bankroll. It says that you are the type of person that have planned for things that aren't in your control.

Good list. Esp. #2. Too many people in my field try to "feature" the customer to death instead of solving the problem simply - which is my view. KISS.
