LASIK: Preliminary results are in…

March 13, 2009 – 9:33 am

I had LASIK surgery yesterday at Joffe.

Going in, I had pretty bad vision.  I always had to put my glasses on just to go get a drink of water in the kitchen, etc.  My prescription was -4.50 on the left eye and -1.75 on the right (with a major astigmatism to boot).

Yesterday at 3:00 I went in for the surgery.  They did some final checks and eye-mapping, and then it was time.   Went back, they numbed my eyes with some eye drops and then did what they do.  Cut flaps, shoot lasers for 20 seconds, then repeat on the other eye.

Went home and took a nap with goggles on….uncomfortable but no pain.  Woke up, VERY sensitive to light so I ate a quick meal and went to bed after doing my drops.  No problem.

So this morning I woke up with dry eyes.  Did my drops, hopped in the shower, etc.

And when I got out I said “holy shit….I can see”

I just went to my next-morning follow up.  I drove, without glasses or contacts for the first time in my life.

SIXTEEN HOURS after surgery….I took another eye test:

RIGHT EYE:  20/20

LEFT EYE:  20/15

Wow.  Doc says both will be 20/15 or better within a few weeks.

Absolutely amazing.

If you do ONE THING this year with $1k-$2k….do this.  Life changer.

Did the same about 10 years ago and was equally amazed. Getting up in the middle of the night without searching for glasses, or to look at the clock was a treat. More importantly I can now see where my golf ball goes when i really connect. Awesome!

    Wow, congrats!

I know exactly how you feel. I have -5.50 and -4.50. Can't even see my alarm clock next to my bed.

I have been wanting to LASIK forever but my doc says my eyes haven't stabilized yet.

    That is very cool.
  • He just knows that once you go LASIK, you'll never be back. :)

As a famous wolf once said "the better to see you with my dear".....
  • Andy, amazing and absolutely wonderful! so happy for your success. My eyesight is still pretty good, but have developed what doc calls ocular migraine so vision is blurred even with glasses. Ever hear of that? Again, so happy for you.
  • All the best. BTW last night I met an Angel investor in Chicago with companies in financial services/engineering and mentioned you, thinking you two may wish to chat. The fella is on LinkedIn tho just his companies are on twitter. Any thoughts how to make the courtesy intro?
  • That's awesome. I'm glad the procedure was successful.
  • congrats andy! I am sure you feel like a free man

Good vision=good news.....life changing. Cogratulations Andy Swan. Now, how many fingers am I holding up? HINT: (Thumbs up!) :)
  • That's Awesome. Of course, politically, you've had 20-20 vision for as long as I've followed you!
