Bottlenecks have eased, 4G on launchpad
June 1, 2009 – 11:40 pmThe 4G “revolution” will be big. Bigger than 3G.
Yes, speed and reliability will be huge. I mean, they are talking about the ability to stream HD television on this network….which means your stupid facebook stuff will load REALLY quickly.
But the key reason 4G will be much much bigger than 3g is that the devices are the bottleneck. No one cared about 3g until the iPhone came out because websites still looked idiotic on most mobile devices. Even then, you had to be on AT&T, which is a hell I live through daily.
No longer. Now, there are lots of devices that can do great video and web displays….and more importantly there will be plenty more developed specifically to take advantage of 4g technology.
The simple-minded will be buying up shares of AAPL and VZ in anticipation of yet another weekend of long lines of hip consumers. But those are crowded trades, and the winners of this “revolution”, like most others, will be those making the picks and shovels to make it happen.
Component makers, tower equipment providers, networkers, a couple of device makers, etc.
I’d love to get more study and feedback into the potential winners of 4G. I’m sure the Fly and the PPT have a lot already done, and I’ll be diving in deeper over the coming days.
In no small coincidence, I bought 100k shares of FNSR today (which I may sell at any point…and most likely will….about 1/4th of the way into some rally that makes me kick myself for at least a month, in a most juvinile manner).
