It’s about TIME

June 9, 2009 – 11:24 am

You’re following too many people on twitter.

You’re reading too many blogs.

You’re using too many indicators in your trades.

You’re developing too many ideas for a business.

You’re reading too many business books.

You’ve got too many relationships with people that don’t really care about you.

You reply to too many emails, and you sit on too many conference calls.

You attend too many conferences, meet-ups and networking events.

You give away too many business cards.

The list goes on and on and on.

You’re using 90% of your time and energy on things that have a very low probability of working for you.

Time, if it exists at all, is the only thing in your life that is absolutely limited.  Act like it.

p.s. To be clear to my new readers (both of you), these posts are not me preaching.  When I write, I’m writing to myself.  If you’re like me and into entrepreneurship, trading, poker, bourbon, golf, wakeboarding and squeezing the most out of life—then it might just be written for you as well.  If not….move on and put this blog in the “low probability of working for me” category and eliminate it.

  • Brutally honest. Well said.

There is more value than meets the eye here. You got your Optimus Prime on with this one! ;)

    Andy --

this was one of the "most timely" (oddly enough but true) pieces I have EVER READ.

Truth is, I'm guilty as hell. and feeling the "hangover" of not using my time wisely or prudently....and my focus has had me recently doing thngs that were not "priorities or adding value" but clearly time intensive -- and made me feel like crapola.

My hangover is gone, and this post inpisred me beyond words into action......I do need to say NO more than I do - and prioritize my TIME more efficiently.

Much love, and thanks for a GREAT post.

    Andy

At the risk of seeming to have completely ignored what you said above, I've just subscribed to your email feed.

In compensation, I promise not to follow your twitter feed, or whatever else.

and do you drink bourbon before or after wakeboarding?
  • bankdraft/Leigh Scott
    and then there's sleep.....so over-rated...less sleep------>MORE TIME.....p.s. what's wakeboarding?
  • Agree 1000%.

Will send u wakeboard links. Or search it on youtube
  • 2 things i don't do enough of: 1) absorbing your pithy witticisms 2) absorbing bourbon
  • I agree on both counts
  • if it is any consolation, you're one of about 10 people i actually go back and read on twitter. when i figure out how to retroactively consume the pappy, i'll be an even more satisfied and complete man.

The old saying "time is money" is wrong. Time is worth far more than money. You can always make money, but you cannot make time!
  • Right on!
  • great post andy!
  • Solid thoughts from a solid guy (who DOESN'T follow me!). People all around me are struggling and suffering with these exact distractions (well, most of them).
